ENR.com Features Leica ScanStation use by Alberisi Construction

New Orleans Flood Gate Project
A feature article in the February 13, 2012 edition of ENR.com describes Alberisi Construction's use of their Leica ScanStation laser scanner and Leica Cyclone software to cut four (4) weeks off of a major construction project in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.
The article details how the company applied scanning to large flood gates fabricated in their St. Louis, Missouri plant and to the gates' receiving slots in vertical concrete-tower abutments in New Orleans. By comparing CAD models made from scans of the fabricated gates with the receiving slots, the construction company was able to ensure proper fit up before shipping the gates. This method eliminated a 4-week wait in the project schedule (due to a secondary concrete curing period) that would have otherwise been required if the pre-scanning and fit-up check had not been done.
