PBS&J Engineering used their Leica Geosystems ScanStation2 and Cyclone software to quickly, safely and accurately capture detailed geometry of 23-acre Fort Jefferson (Dry Tortugas, Gulf of Mexico) in just 2 days. Deliverables included cross-sections of the fort's eroding walls at specified locations for ongoing rehabilitation work. Laser scanning services were provided within the project's survey budget, which ironically did not originally include scanning; however, scanning proved to be more than (5) times more cost effective than the originally planned traditional survey and drafting methods. In the February 2010 issue of POB magazine, PBS&J's project manager, Roberto Montecon states that "on an increasing number of projects, laser scanning is allowing PBS&J to be profitable and still save your client money".
