Leica HDS featured in web video of "TED" presentation by Ben Kacyra, CyArk

This movie treats the viewer to a very special presentation given by Ben Kacyra, CyArk, at the GlobalTED conference (July 2011, Edinburgh, Scotland) on the use of 3D laser scanning for the digital preservation and "sharing" of heritage sites around the globe.
The movie includes a live scan of the audience with a Leica ScanStation C10 scanner. Kacyra founded Cyra Technologies to pioneer laser scanning technology in the 1990's. In 2001 Leica Geosystems acquired Cyra and this Leica Geosystems business unit has continued as the acknowledged market-leading developer and supplier of 3D laser scanners and point cloud software. TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) began in 1984 as a prestigious conference where, according to the BBC, "big thinkers discuss big ideas among the many of the world's leading scientists, academics and business leaders." In 2007, when the best of these presentations - each is 18 minutes, max - were made available free, online, "TEDTalks" as they are now known became an instant internet sensation. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Frank Gehry, Jane Goodall, Al Gore, Billy Graham, Annie Lennox, Peter Gabriel, Quincy Jones, Bono. Yet often the real stars have been the unexpected - like Ben Kacyra showcasing the use of Leica HDS tools for the betterment of humanity.

"... consistently the best thing you can watch on the internet: the TED talks. Brilliant people, in the true sense of the word."
Guardian UK

"At around this time of year, it seems the Internet is 35 percent TEDTalks ... there's something about these videos that seems to have captured the Web's shiny, aspirational spirit."
Toronto Globe and Mail

" ... the annual Technology, Entertainment and Design conference is the place for glimpses into the future."
Wall Street Journal
