The cover story of the March 2010 issue of POB magazine details how Smart MultiMedia (Texas), a Houston-based scanning and multimedia services company, and a field team that included Meridian Associates (Houston), Asbuilt Modeling Services (Houston) and Mustang Engineering (Houston), used a fleet of three (3) Leica HDS scanners to accurately capture complex exterior geometry of the USS Missouri in only four (4) days, while the massive ship was briefly out of water for refurbishment. The High-Definition Survey of the ship is being used by USS Memorial Association, Inc. for ongoing restoration & maintenance work, plus they plan to use the computer models of the scan data to provide a better educational experience for the ship's many tourist visitors at Pearl Harbor's Battleship Row. The USS Missouri, the last battleship launched by the United Sates, was the site of Japan's surrender, Sept. 2, 1945, ending World War II.
