Leica Geosystems Announces Leica Cyclone 8.1 with a Major Licensing Update for All Leica Cyclone-based Point Cloud Software
11 November 2013
(Heerbrugg/Switzerland, 11 November 2013) - Leica Geosystems announces Leica Cyclone 8.1. This version includes a major licensing update for all standalone Leica Cyclone products and Leica CloudWorx plug-in products. With the licensing update, plus other accompanying Cyclone additions and enhancements, users will spend less time in the office and can work easier with rich, as-built point cloud data.
Licensing update benefits Leica Cyclone and Leica CloudWorx product families
Leica Cyclone not only represents the family of Cyclone standalone point cloud applications, but Cyclone is also the underlying software foundation for popular Leica CloudWorx plug-ins that enable 3rd party applications to work more efficiently with point clouds. CloudWorx plug-ins are currently available for AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, SmartPlant 3D, SmartPlant Review, PDMS, and 3ds Max. Since Cyclone and CloudWorx use the same licensing methods, all versions benefit from the following licensing enhancements:
- Users can now borrow or check-out a license as needed
- Users can now, on their own, move a license permanently from one computer to another
- Users can now implement any license as floating or node-locked
- Via the Leica myWorld portal, users with support agreements can now receive and implement the latest software updates on their own
- Rentals are now available as convenient “pre-paid licenses” for all products with rental periods as short as one week for most products; discounts are available for extended rental periods
Overall, the new licensing features give users more flexibility and freedom to take advantage of Leica Cyclone and CloudWorx point cloud applications as needed, while simultaneously minimizing the cost, time, and hassle of licensing.
New: Leica Cyclone BASIC
With the release of Leica Cyclone 8.1 comes Leica Cyclone BASIC, an affordable, comprehensive point cloud utility for both field and office. This new member of the Leica Cyclone family combines the former Cyclone SCAN and Cyclone VIEWER Pro products into one convenient application. In the field, Cyclone BASIC operates Leica scanners that can be operated via laptops. Users can manage scan parameters; scan target acquisition; field QA; digital imaging; geo-referencing; auto-registration; tilt compensation; field survey methodologies including traverse, resection, and known point setup; scan filters; scanner calibration; and more depending on scanner capabilities.
In the office, Cyclone BASIC provides users with numerous, handy options for viewing and navigating point clouds and 3D models, as well as working with them for measurement and markup/redlining. Cyclone BASIC also serves as a versatile “back-office” data exchange module, supporting import formats from virtually any laser scanner plus a wide range of popular export formats.
Additional Leica Cyclone 8.1 features
As an open, neutral platform, Cyclone 8.1 also provides support for many of the latest ecosystem updates including Windows 8; new scan data formats (Riegl RXP and HDS7000 ZFC); new 3” black & white scan targets; and, new Z+F Laser Control firmware scan data filters.
Finally, Cyclone 8.1 includes new, office time saving capabilities for converting point clouds into models. “Fitters” for processing point clouds into objects like cylinders and planes have been made more robust, especially for noisy scan data or data that may include extraneous scan points. A handy, new command within Cyclone’s automatic pipe finding & modeling tool also lets users automatically identify and model only those pipes within a user-specified diameter range.
All of the above products are immediately available.
